Aghaziya Welfare Society

Mufti sahab also runs a welfare society. It gives medicine to people who cannot buy it, food to families who need it, and school fees for children who would otherwise have to stop. It stands by any household that hardship has left with nothing.

Relief operation

The Assam floods

August 2026 — Sivasagar, Nepali Kuti and Bihpur, Assam

When the water came down on Assam, the society sent help two thousand kilometres from its own village. The campaign was begun with a target of about five lakh rupees. Then the team went and stood in Sivasagar, Nepali Kuti and Bihpur, saw what the flood had actually taken, and the budget was written again.

By the time it was counted, more than ten lakh rupees had reached those families — as ration, as a sheet of tarpaulin over what was left, as five wooden houses, and as cash put into the hand of a household the water had emptied.

What it is

Aghaziya Welfare Society is registered in Uttar Pradesh and works out of Makanpur Shareef, Kanpur Nagar. It does the part of the work that a written ruling cannot do. A ruling can tell a man what he owes his family. It cannot buy the medicine.

There is no office to sit in and no form to fill in. The names come from the neighbourhood: an imam who knows which house has stopped cooking twice a day, a teacher who knows which child has been kept at home since the fees fell due. Someone goes and looks. Then the help is put into the person's own hand, at their own door.

It runs on what people give. Every month a ration reaches the families on the list. Before Eid, gift boxes are packed and handed out at the madarsa. Through the year there is medicine, a fee paid before a child's name is struck off, and help sent to a home that a death or a hospital bill has emptied.
