The morning and evening adhkar as protection
The most reliable spiritual protection in Islam is not an amulet. It is a short, fixed recitation said twice a day, every day.
The core
- Ayat al-Kursi, once after each obligatory prayer and at both ends of the day. The hadith attaches to it a guardian who remains until morning.
- Al-Ikhlas, al-Falaq and an-Nas, three times each, morning and evening. The Prophet ﷺ said they suffice a person against everything.
- The words of refuge: A‘udhu bi kalimatillahit-tammati min sharri ma khalaq — I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of what He has created. Said three times in the evening, it protects from harm through the night.
- Bismillahil-ladhi la yadurru ma‘asmihi shay’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i wa huwas-Sami‘ul-‘Alim, three times, morning and evening.
Why the fixed habit matters more than the intensity
The deeds most beloved to Allah are the most constant, even if they are few.
A person who recites these every morning and evening for a year has built something no single long session can match. Attach them to two things you already do without fail — after Fajr, and after Maghrib — and they will not be forgotten.
For the household
Recite Surah al-Baqarah in the house, whether directly or by playing a recitation. The hadith states that the devil flees a house in which al-Baqarah is recited. Teach the children the three surahs before you teach them anything else about protection.
